The Sidhe Devils Go To Orgrimmar
Jardal and I are responsible for coming up with a monthly “All Level” guild event. If your guild doesn’t do any casual, social events, then I highly recommend starting some up. They are a great way to bring a community together, without the pressures of raiding. This is especially important if you have any new members without level capped characters – an event like this might be the only group interaction they can take part in.
Our first event was timed around Halloween, so we did a sort of “Trick-or-Treat Scavenger Hunt”. We provided a list of clues to the locations of several hidden Sidhe Devils. The goal was to find each person, pick up a “treat” from them, then head to the final location to receive a prize. It was very fun to see how the clues were interpreted, and where people ended up on their hunt. We used seldom visited locations like Ravenholdt, and the Warsong Gulch entrance. We’ll probably do a variation of this event in the future, as it was a blast!
Last night we had another event titled “Orgrimmar Holiday Party”. We formed a raid group and headed out from Ratchet, charging towards the gates of Orgrimmar.
Just before reaching the PVP flagged zone we changed into our party outfits and danced
. There was a little bit of trivia, some Peggle duals, presents, and general silliness.
I think we successfully confused the Hordies that were wandering around. I’m not sure why they thought we were going to raid Orgrimmar in dresses and mounted on Reindeer. Actually, now that I think about it, raiding Orgrimmar on reindeer would be pretty epic. Someone should do that.
According to my WordPress stats and feedburner I apparently have a few readers now. So I throw the question out to you – what kinds of social guild events have you taken part in, or would like to take part in?

I thought the scavenger hunt was one of my favortist things in the game. You rocked the place with that one, posting a detailed “how to set it up” would be a good call, because that was just great!Oh, yeah, and the Orgrimmar Dance Party was wicked fun, too.
The only social event I’ve had the pleasure of participating in was Raid for the Cure! Of course, that wasn’t a guild-only social event.
Any social event that encourages the use of holiday/just for fun trinkets is a good one! I don’t have all those full bank slots for nothing!
The Holiday Org Party looks like it was alot of fun. I’m sad that I wasn’t one of the confused Hordies who witnessed it!
The best possible social event ever.
Dinner & Drinks
We spend so much time in game, either raiding, farming, or just hanging out. Can’t believe we never though on something like a in-game social gathering.
But I guess that’s a guild “flaw” we have, we are all around the same age group, and we live mostly close to each other, on-occasion-dinner-party’s are a must in our social lives.
Scavenger hunt you say

My circle of RL WoW friends is small, so our mains are in a small guild. For big time fun, we’ll alt around other’s events, like BRK’s races, RftC, the Sleeper Cartel events on Perenolde (what’ll they do, now that there’s “no raid under level 10″?), and WoW.com’s It Came From the Blog guild events on Zangamarsh. Warcraft Hunter Union’s level 1 dwarf hunter raid was pretty epic, too. We took down Ysondre! So even if your own guild is too small for this kind of fun, there’s plenty to be had in the wide world of Warcraft
I’m a little sad about the “no raid under level 10″ thing. I’m sure it was easier to keep track of people at events like that in a raid. In the future it will just have to be a channel everyone joins, like we did for the Raid for the Cure event on Kael’thas.
The Hollows Eve event rocked. Thats all I have to say about that. (in my best Forrest Gump voice)
The party outside Org was a blast as well.
One thing I have seen in the past was playing darts.
We used Thunder Bluff (was back in my Horde days) but Dalaran would work just as well.
Simply put, one or two players would get on the ground beneath Dalaran. At least one needs to be able to rez folks.
The object is to jump off Dalaran and see who can splat closest to the “target” player. Heck I think we even had someone roll an alt named “Bullseye”. (A Tauren Hunter that he ended up keeping)
We gave out cash prizes, but we could do anything as a reward really.
Also, catch me in game some time, I have an idea for a Winters Veil event.
@ Dechion:
Epic!
The bullseye thing sounds pretty awesome! I’d heard of people rolling tauren to jump off Thunder Bluff, but I never thought about Dalaran. Thanks for the idea!
Sounds nice. We should really do another event sometime soon. Just I guess there really is not much time before Christmas …
Well what have we done in the past?
We had a naked level 1 race from Teldrassil to the Undead starting area on our own server which is a pvp server! Much fun.
We had a snowball fight in the dwarves starting area. It was a kind of tag game. Whoever was hit had to stop playing. Last wo/man standing wins
We just have guild meetings every few months, where we meet “on our ship” in Menethil talk about guild stuff, duel a lot and after that we go raid a horde base and from there try to invade whatever horde city feels good – since we’re a small guild it always ends with us being killed a lot.
One year around Christmas we cast lots where all participants had to give one other participant an in-game present without them knowing who gave the present. It is a German tradition called “Wichteln” basically. “Wichtel” = actually is a gnome, a Christmas gnome.
We have also participated in a Stranglethorn Arena Tournament event organized by another guild. Basically it was indeed Arena … teams vs other teams. Last player standing wins.
Sometimes we do oldschool dungeon/raid nights or weird things like raiding Scarlet Monastery with 10 people (way back when that was still possible).
Cannot think of anymore …
I think the jumping to your death to hit the Bullseye rocks! We need to try that.
Thanks for the ideas! The snowball fight sounds fun
