Shaman Exploration
Last night I got to take my shaman into ICC for the first time. I was thrilled and nervous at the thought of healing end-game content. Luckily I had my well-geared and experienced fiance Jardal to compensate for my healing newbness (with some shadow priests assists). And it turns out… it’s not so bad. I understand why PUGs can do the lower spire now — that 20% buff really takes the strain off of things. We wiped once on trash as usual (it’s practically our guild motto), and once on Marrowgar due to being a bit off when the pull went awry. It was smooth sailing after that, and I don’t think I failed too horribly as a healer. I ended up with some shiny achievements and frost badges. And… enhancement loot.
Yes, not a single thing dropped for a resto or elemental shaman. It was all hunter loot… And the hunters didn’t want it.
I’d been contemplating trying enhancement during Cataclysm for leveling. I knew that I should start building a set of gear, but I just couldn’t bear the thought of chain-running heroics again. Apparently the WOW gods have decided that it’s time. I’ll start keeping an eye out for drops in the future, and saving my triumph badges.
I always said I wouldn’t go enhancement for two reasons: 1) Resto and elemental share a lot of gear (and will so even more in Cataclysm), and 2) My main is melee DPS, and I don’t want to infringe on her territory with an alt. I’m not sure when I started to change my mind, but the loot drops last night made the plan official. I’m not in love with the Elemental style for some reason — it’s just never “clicked” for me. I put out decent dps, and I get along fine, but it’s not as fun as I’d hoped. Enhancement seems intriguing — a magic-using melee DPS, with spirit wolves, and interesting procs.
Unfortunately, I know absolutely nothing about enhancement. I don’t know their rotation, their stat priorities, or even what spells they have. I am nearly as clueless about enhancement as I am clueless about warlocks or warriors. I don’t read any enhancement blogs. It’s like a big black hole…
So my question to you while I build up my gear set is — can you point me to any good enhancement shaman resources? Of course I’ll check the Twisted Nether wiki for blogs, and Elitest Jerks, but are there any rockstar blogs or resources that have really helped you out?

Wow.com’s Rich Maloy (aka Stoneybaby) is one of the single best places to go for enhancement advice. He also posts on bighitbox.com.
Well your noob healer healed my noob tank just fine. I think your ready for the big time:)
Night pulls off 2 completely different sets of gear (Kat and Tree) and after the initial pain of gems/enchants its not to hard to keep up with it. I would give it a try, you may be the awsumist Enhancer evah!
Your noob tank did an excellent job! I’ll heal you anytime.
You failed to make the appropriate offerings to Lady RNG, my friend.
Whenever we dare to venture into ICC without a shaman, we get nothing but shaman loot from beginning to end.
Isn’t that always the way RNG works?
I’ve had fantastic luck on my rogue – I have everything from lower spire I could ever want, and my wish list is growing increasingly smaller. And yet the rogue loot continues to drop, even though I don’t need it anymore…
I had the same problem when I started getting gear for my enhancement set. I found this on the official forums and it’s pretty damn good. It covers everything you need to know about your starting gear, what kind of stats you need to be looking at etc.

and just a personal suggestion, one thing that really worked for me, was after i got some gear and could actually do heroics as enhance, i started doin one heroic after the other as enahance jus to practice. that being said, if you do not have the time or the patience to queue for heroics as dps, i’d suggest going to a training dummy (heroic) and practicing dps as explained in that guide.
