An Ode To Starfall
Not your usual wall of text today, just a quick update.
Moonkin will never be the same
The PTR 4.0.6 patch notes are full of important stuff that I should probably comment on, but one item stood out for me:
Starfall will no longer strike targets that are not in combat and will now drop stars at a slightly faster rate.
Oh Starfall, why did you have to go change?
I loved you as you were, despite everyone’s gripes
You were so magnificent, pulling everything in range
You caused us so many amusing wipes
You gave me a reason to make fun of moonkin
and someone else to blame
I always thought that you were really something
I could count on to stay the same
Er… yeah, that’s enough. I should never ever try to write poems. I am very sorry. The point is, although I know that this will be a boost to Moonkin DPS on trash because they won’t have to live in fear of pulling the entire room, it still makes me a little sad to see it change. It is just one of those things that will fall into WOW’s history as an amusing anecdote.

A Generous Gift
Vidyala from Manalicious offered 5-minute sketches to commenters on her Blogaversary post. I’ve been a long-time fan of her lovely WOW art, so this really excited me. I don’t think she realized just how many comments she would get!
Last night she posted a bunch of these sketches, and to my delight, my shaman was among them:
So thanks again to Vidyala for being so wonderful! She really captured the spirit of the characters of so many in the community, with simple black-and-white sketches. It was very generous of her to donate her time and skill.

Don’t worry, I loved your poem haha. Awesome sketch from Vidyala!

Gah! Rhyming poems need a meter.
Also, meant to ask Jardal what he thought about the (tentative) Starfall change.
Very nice sketch. Although the second thing I thought on seeing it was pointlessly nitpicky.
On the subject of addons: I’m finding features on both Recount and Skada that I really don’t want to be without. I’ve not been able to get Skada to give me a nice summary of incoming damage/heals in the time shortly before death. It’ll give me a time of death. Far less useful than Recount’s postmortem, which gives me every time anything changed the deader’s health for the last while before dying (I don’t know if it’s a certain number of events or a certain amount of time before death; it’s not something I’m eager to test), complete with a running total of how much health was left after each heal/attack landed.
I do have to agree that Skada is far easier to navigate, and it’s ability to tell me how much damage my tank absorbed/blocked/parried/dodged is incredibly nifty.
Oh I know the poem doesn’t work, but I wasn’t interested in thinking very hard. Technically it is not an ode at all.
I do miss the postmortem on Recount, as Skada’s isn’t quite as nice, but it doesn’t bother me enough to run two addons
Thanks Kae, I’m glad you liked it.
