Power Auras

What Is Power Auras?

Power Auras Classic, or “powa” for short,  is an addon that can be setup to provide visual cues based on events and triggers generated while  you play. You can download the addon at Curse.com here, or most other addon sites. It is a very powerful tool but requires some effort to set up and customize for your class and spec. No auras are built-in to the addon, however you can import a configuration string from many sites and blogs – just google “power auras” + your class and there will be a plethora of options.

Power Auras can be used for a multitude of purposes, and can include audio cues, timers, stack counters, and animations.

To set up your own aura, you  need to have a basic understanding of the addon and its configuration options. Think about what you want to be notified of. Do you want to know when a buff has fallen off, when a spell procs, or when something comes off cooldown? Those are all features of Power Auras. Essentially, you should think about what types of events you want to be made aware of, and its rare that a Power Aura can’t be created for it.

Blizzard has even included their own built-in “auras” with Cataclysm, which are not configurable, but provide helpful visual and audio cues for new players upon spell procs or other events. If you are irritated that you can’t adjust the settings, but can see the potential, then Power Auras is an addon for you.
